The Loop Dallas Secures Major Funding to Enhance Connectivity
DALLAS, TX – November 14, 2025 – In a significant development for regional mobility, The Loop Dallas has successfully secured $10.9 million from the Texas Transportation Commission (TxDOT). This grant aims to fund a crucial segment of the Trinity Forest Spine Trail, which will provide direct community access to the sprawling 110-acre Parkdale Lake greenspace. This funding marks the first major award for The Loop since 2021 and represents a pivotal step toward the completion of a 50-mile urban circuit trail designed to unite Dallas.
Public-Private Partnerships Leading the Way
This grant is not just about infrastructure; it's a symbol of collaboration, with The Loop Dallas leveraging an additional $3 million from the City of Dallas bond program. This funding will be used to build a pedestrian bridge over an active Union Pacific rail line—an essential connection point that has long hindered access in Southern Dallas.
“We are profoundly grateful for the partnership and vision of TxDOT in supporting The Loop Dallas,” stated Jeff Ellerman, Board Chairman. The project is viewed as a legacy investment aiming to solve long-standing infrastructure challenges, thereby enhancing regional mobility and public safety while connecting communities across the Dallas area.
Bridging Communities and Enhancing Quality of Life
The new 1,200-foot pedestrian bridge is planned to effectively transport residents over the UP rail line, facilitating safer and easier access to parks and greenspaces. According to Dallas’ Park and Recreation Director John Jenkins, this initiative is instrumental in connecting neighborhoods like Dolphin Heights and Fair Park to vital public amenities, thereby promoting a healthier lifestyle and enriching community life.
Long-Term Vision for Sustainable Mobility
The Loop Dallas aims to unite the city through an extensive bike and pedestrian-active transportation system. Connecting existing trails with newly built paths, this project not only addresses immediate transportation needs but also represents a broader vision for sustainable urban development. As Dallas continues to grow, investments in this kind of infrastructure are essential for improving quality of life for all residents, particularly in historically underserved neighborhoods.
Call for Community Support
As The Loop Dallas progresses, community involvement is paramount. Residents are encouraged to engage with the plans and participate in discussions about upcoming developments, ensuring that the project meets the needs and desires of those it aims to serve. Together, we can ensure that Dallas becomes a more connected, healthier city for future generations.
